Kawaii means “loveable” or “adorable” in Japanese, and it has become a prominent aspect of their culture, which is obvious in the way they dress, their music and art, the way the behave and so on . The Hello Kitty character is a staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. Collecting Hello Kitty miniatures and looking for Hello Kitty stuff I run upon some unconventional ways to put some Hello Kitty cuteness in someone’ s life!
The Hello Kitty Murder
In 1999 a 23 year old girl, Fan Man-yee, was kidnapped in Hong Kong. The three young kidnappers tortured her for a month over a dept dispute, after which either they killed her or she died by drug overdose (police couldn’ t say) . After her death, the woman was decapitated and her head was inserted into a Hello Kitty doll. The killing was exposed after the 14-year-old girlfriend of one of three men reported the case to police. She said her dreams were haunted by Fan’s ghost.
“Human Pork Chop” and “There Is a Secret in My Soup” are both movies filmed in Hong Kong, based on the Hello Kitty murder.

The Pink Armband of Shame
As of August 2007, Thai police officers who have committed minor transgressions such as showing up late, parking in the wrong place or dropping litter on the sidewalk are forced to wear Hello Kitty armbands for several days as penance. Not so macho an officer, right? This humiliation plan was conceived by mr Pongpat Chayaphan, acting chief of the Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok who has trained with the American Secret Service and the Canadian police! I find this a clever way of punishment and indeed it has been found efficient. A cute kitty can work wonders where no the rules can!
